I never thought I would be saying these words, but “Thank you, pirates”. That may be a strange thing to say, but let me explain. By all accounts, one of the most impressive things revealed at Comic-Con, was the first footage for Warner Bros/DC Comics’ upcoming Suicide Squad. I say by all accounts, because it was only screened in Hall H and was never intended to be shown to the general public.

But then the footage got bootlegged, and before you could say “Holy tattooed Joker, Batman!”, grainy, out of focus, horribly low quality cellphone videos of the footage was popping all over the place. Warner Bros was not happy in the slightest about this. Discussions started up about how this would lead to studios no longer debuting footage at Comic-Con. Instead, Warner Bros did something nobody expected them to do: They’ve now officially released the trailer online for everybody to see in the proper HD glory it was meant to be seen. And it’s freaking awesome!

Check it out below, along with the statement that Warner Bros released with the trailer.

“Warner Bros. Pictures and our anti-piracy team have worked tirelessly over the last 48 hours to contain the Suicide Squad footage that was pirated from Hall H on Saturday. We have been unable to achieve that goal. Today we will release the same footage that has been illegally circulating on the web, in the form it was created and high quality with which it was intended to be enjoyed. We regret this decision as it was our intention to keep the footage as a unique experience for the Comic Con crowd, but we cannot continue to allow the film to be represented by the poor quality of the pirated footage stolen from our presentation.”

Pardon my French, but HOLY F#$@ THAT LOOKS GOOD! I know Jared Leto’s Joker has taken a lot of flak for his overly-edgy appearance, but I’ll be damned if that isn’t unnerving as all hell. AND THAT LAUGH!! Writer/director David Ayer (Fury, End of Watch) seems to have crafted a comic-book movie here that feels nothing like its counterparts, and I cannot wait to see more of it.

And now that you’ve seen that trailer, you can actually watch the rest of the Suicide Squad panel – as short as it is – to complete your remote Comic-Con experience.

Suicide Squad also stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Cara Deviligne as Enchantress, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Adam Beach as Slipknot, and Jim Parrack as Deathstroke. Suicide Squad is scheduled for release on August 5, 2016.

I dunno. The Joker is cool, but this trailer is a bit lame. Not feeling it at all.
