New pics and details for the four new Bond ladies of SPECTRE

A brand new trailer for Spectre, James Bond’s latest adventure, is expected to be dropping real soon. Possibly even later today (so watch this space!). And in anticipation of getting a fresh glimpse of 007’s latest cinematic outing, USA Today have unveiled some new pics and details for the film’s four new Bond ladies. Yes, Bond ladies, because as the news outlet notes, “they’re girls no more”.

So let’s take a closer look at these ladies, starting with the only recurring feminine face to move over from Skyfall:

  • Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny

Moneypenny was a young and very green MI6 agent in 2012’s Skyfall, and the events of the film — in which she nearly killed our favorite British superspy by accidentally shooting him — “made her reassess what she was doing as a profession and what she wanted to do with the rest of her life,” Harris says. In Spectre, “she wants to support in a different way. There’s a maturity in that decision and a groundedness you see with her.”

  • Lea Seydoux as Madeleine Swann

The doctor daughter of an assassin, Swann comes into contact with Bond at her Austrian clinic, and while there is a spark between them, their first meeting is abrupt, to say the least. “He comes to find her,” Seydoux says, “and she doesn’t want anything to do with him.”

  • Monica Belucci as Lucia Sciarra

Bond arrives in Italy looking for information from the widow, whose Mafioso husband has been murdered — a fate that might be waiting for her as well. “She comes from a man’s world,” Bellucci says. “But when the attraction between them takes place and she realizes her feminine power on him, then she trusts him to save her.”

  • Stephanie Sigman as Estrella

Sigman would love to say, but she’s sworn to secrecy about pretty much everything involving her character, including her last name. But when it comes to Estrella’s personality, “there’s a lot of Stephanie in her. She’s a lot like me,” the Hollywood newcomer says. “We like to have fun and we’re joyful people. I found her really easy to play and go with the flow and just be me.”

The most interesting takeaways here for me are the continued evolution of this new updated Moneypenny begun in Skyfall, as well as the mystery surrounding Stephanie Sigman’s Estrella, who pics reveal will be involved in the film’s massive pre-titles opening sequence during a Mexican Day of the Dead parade. From earlier descriptions of that sequence, Estrella seemed like just another small Bond “girl” role, but clearly there’s more there than we thought.

Spectre, which will be returning director’s Sam Mendes’ last Bond film, is scheduled for release on November 6, 2015, and sees Daniel Craig once again reprising his role as the legendary James Bond.

In SPECTRE, a cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.
