It may have fallen like Ice Cube’s street-cred after making Are We There Yet?, but Straight Outta Compton is still going strong at the US box office. Keeping a first place slot, Straight Outta Compton took in another $26.8 million in domestic sales, edging out newcomers such as Sinister 2 and American Ultra.

Horror sequel Sinister 2 was aiming for a $15-$18 million opening this weekend, but instead came in at $10.6 million, making for a third place debut. That’s way behind similar movies such as the Insidious flicks, and even though it was made on the tightest of budgets, don;t expect to see more Sinister anytime soon with results like that.

Meanwhile, Hitman: Agent 47 took fourth place with $8.1 million, which is even worse than the original film from 2007, which made over $13 million on opening. Another video game box office bomb then, while American Ultra fizzled out with only $5.5 million earned. Here’s a look at how everyone else did on the North American weekend:

  • Straight Outta Compton – $26.7 Million
  • Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation – $11.7 Million
  • Sinister 2 – $ 10.6Million
  • Hitman: Agent 47 – $8.2 Million
  • The Man from UNCLE – $7.5 Million
  • American Ultra – $5.5 Million
  • The Gift – $4.3 Million
  • Ant-Man – $4 Million
  • Minions – $3.7 Million
  • Fantastic Four – $3.6 Million

Top ten departures this week include Vacation and Trainwreck. The Vacation reboot made $52.3 million over a four week run at the US box office, with foreign ticket sales adding in another $15.5 million. Compared to the original flick’s $61 million haul, that’s not bad.

And then you realise that 1983 money adjusted for inflation, means that the first Vacation flick actually made $146.1 million. In the USA alone.
