Believe it or not, it’s less than two months till Christmas. Oh the horror. As you can probably guess, I’m not the biggest fan of Christmas. Don’t get me wrong, I love the time with family, but it’s all the gifts and the crowds which freak me out (it’s not just clowns that are creepy). So needless to say ,when I see the decorations start being put up in my local shopping mall, I know it’s time to retreat back to the comforts of home and online shopping for the next few months. And Die Hard aside, I’m not the biggest fan of Christmas movies either. But the movies will come every year and do their best to try and convince me either way.

And Kevin Hart, that tireless comedic actor who seems to be in everything these days, is now getting the chance to try and sway me that there is hope in watching Christmas movies again. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the actor will be playing Santa Claus in the upcoming movie, Dashing Through The Snow, where he will be convincing a workaholic father to believe in the magic of Christmas to repair the strained relationship he has with his son. Which basically sounds like your typical Christmas movie plot, only with Kevin Hart who I’m sure will keep things from being too sentimental for too long.

Now, I’m sure this news is bound to get some people flared up, because Hart is not, you know, white, as Santa Claus has traditionally been depicted. It’s as if they really think he’s real or something (sorry Darryn for breaking the news to you this way). But Neanderthals aside, I think it is a good move to have Hart take on the role, as he is unlikely to be your typical Santa Claus. And it’s not just the skin pigmentation I am referring to, but his general physique (last I checked, he’s not fat or old enough) and screen presence is something a little different. Not to mention he seems a sure bet for making money at the box office.

I’m not the biggest Kevin Hart fan, but I’m game for a different kind of Christmas movie for a change. I’ll probably watch it around the following April or something, once I’ve recovered from the holidays, but I’ll watch it nonetheless.

Dashing Through the Snow comes from the mind of Con-Air writer Scott Rosenberg, which is something completely different from him for a change. It’s also reportedly being given a new draft by The Fundamentals of Caring writer and director Rob Burnett. There is no director signed up for the project yet, but they’re actively pursuing one. No word on whether the movie is scheduled for Christmas 2018 or later, but for Kevin Hart fans, at least you have something to look forward to during a future Christmas season. As for me, I’m going to try and convince my family and friends it’s still September and hope they don’t notice when their gifts don’t arrive as scheduled (or ever!!!).
