Reality is weirder than fiction. Not always! Swiss Army Man has got to be the strangest movie that I have ever seen, no, REALLY everyone! It’s so full of metaphors that you are not quite sure of what is real, and what isn’t. I heard it won huge praise at the Sundance Film Festival so wanted to see what all the fuss was about. A few calls later and I had arranged some friends to sit and watch it with me. Our feedback is, well… Have a watch and see what we thought.

It’s an odd movie. I’ve been thinking about it since I viewed it and I think I may need to have a sit down and watch it again. It’s a very intimate film so best viewed alone I think. The personal journey of Paul Dano’s character is very intense and the strange, and very dark humour can be rather jarring. It is unique though. It isn’t another superhero movie or remake which is great. I just do worry about the ending (as I said earlier, spoilers in the video review).
What do you think? Are you intrigued enough to dare watch it or does it sound like some arty-farty experiment?

I will add that this movie has definitely lingered in my thoughts. Not the slapstick funny parts but the message. This movie is journey of loneliness, despair and desperation. It is thought provoking and as we say above, beautifully shot and acted. With a couple of days to mull it over I think that this movie should have pushed the envelope much more I think that it was played safe and that is ultimately it’s downfall.
My theories on what actually happen in the movie are very different to those of Nick. So everyone is going have a very unique experience.
I think that the conclusion was very weak, but with afterthought and once I had worked out my theory one that is satisfactory to the story. It should have been done better in my opinion.
In conclusion, this is a very weird movie. It has genuinely funny and touching moments. I would recommend fire you to give it a watch if you like the indie scene, you might just love it. I, personally, think that it is an opportunity missed but not by much. I will stick by my WTF but will raise my score to 3 out of 5
