HuniePop is a game about learning to meet women

Huniepop

Dating is hard. Luckily, I’ve been off the market for a long time now, but it seems to only be getting more difficult to meet someone. HuniePop is a Steam game for PC, Mac and Linux that combines bejeweled and dating sim to help you meet women and I can’t even finish this sentence with a straight face.

Biggest thanks to our dearest Wookiee for linking me to this game that has made me giggle for much of the day. HuniePop is described as a unique sim that combines dating sim and puzzler with some light RPG elements and a visual novel presentation. Oh, and it promises plenty of “plot”. But it’s all about the story, right?

After a pathetic attempt to try and pick up Kyu, a magic love fairy in disguise, she decides to take you under her wing and help you out with your crippling inability to meet new women. After a few dating lessons and some sound advice, Kyu sends you out into the world ready to take on the dating world and a wide cast of beautiful babes.

It certainly has all the standard Japanese ideas of Moe and Kawaii down pat. It looks like an adorable Bejeweled clone and not much more, unless you like for combos to result in animated panty shots. But it’s the reviews that makes me laugh because it reminds me of when we force Matty to play games he doesn’t want to. Destructiod gave this considered assessment:

While it doesn’t look or feel like it at first, there’s a lot going on here strategy-wise that ends up making the game a time sink if you’re not careful.

At least there’s more than meets the eye. Too bad Christ Centered Gamer didn’t share that opinion:

As a Christian, I cannot recommend this game to fellow believers.

At least it looks vaguely entertaining and I’d wager that there’s a halfway decent game under all that wtf Japan.

Christ Centered Gamer sounds like he or she might only play …

Actually I was gonna say the Sims but it features many immoral ways to torture people. Also technically it is a god game.

    meh.

ITS A TRAP! This game is by all means teaching you what NOT to do if you want to pick up ladies. I’ve played it and the questions you need to answer is so… so… retarded. Oh it also throws woman into the materialistic box where you can buy love over by gifts… like cocaine and fuzzy pink handcuffs… Ok maybe this game is dating sim of note.
