Unreal World War Z game for mobile devices

In a bid to move even further away from the awesome, original book, Paramount Digital Entertainment and Phosphor Games are doing a tie in mobile game for World War Z, out on May 30th.

I’m not saying it doesn’t look awesome, especially for a mobile game.  It really does.  It just irritates me that the reason they are making the film and, therefore, the game is because the book was fantastic.  And then they completely ignore the source material and just make yet another zombie game.

I wonder if this is the future of mobile games now that so many studios are committed to making high quality games for tablets and phones.  Considering their approach, I wouldn’t be surprised

“We were excited to be able to use the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 3 to bring World War Z to life,” Chip Sineni, Phosphor Games Studio Director said in a statement. “Our goal was to build Paramount a AAA game, and with that came all our favorite bells and whistles, like ambient occlusion lighting, multipass blended textures, and hordes of enemies to fight.”

The first thing I thought was “Wait, those WarZ guys now want to lie to mobile gamers as well?” Then I realised it said World War Z. Phew.

Anyway, still looks pretty incredible for a mobile game. To think, only just over a decade ago games like this on a PC would have required top of the range hardware. Now it simply needs a phone. Just crazy where tech is going lately.
