I’m a huge fan of the cinematic trailers that gaming companies are now releasing, you know the ones I am talking about. The ones that have little to no gameplay footage at all and wouldn’t be out of place in the world of blockbuster movie trailers.
So to satisfy my cinematic desires I have rounded up the top 10 cinematic trailers from the last few years.
Do you agree or have I missed out the best of the bunch?
10. Brink
9. Splinter Cell: Conviction
8. Burnout: Paradise City
7. Halo 3
6. Bioshock 1
5. Left 4 Dead 2
4. Deux Ex: Human Evolution
3. Gears of War 1 (Mad World)
2. Starcraft 2
1. Heavy Rain
Okay that’s my list, remember this isn’t a top 10 list of games but simply their cinematic trailers from my point of view.

Never saw that Deus Ex one, that’s pretty good. Heavy Rain one is just pure power!

yeah that Heavy Rain was deserves the top spot. Or does it? It actually shows you nothing of the actual game and is essentially a tech demo.

Yep, Mass Effect 2’s one was absolutely epic. I think it was the music that made it though, Heart of Courage by Two Steps From Hell, will make anything look awesome.

Would the Halo3 ODST “we are ODST” not count, seeing as it’s a live action trailer?

Yeah, the Mass Effect 2 trailer was epic, as well as the Dragon Age cinematic trailer

If you don’t have Killzone 2 in there you fail. Go on PSN and download the 4D interactive trailer.

Man I hate the term 4D, just because it’s interactive doesn’t make it 4D… the common belief is that time is the 4th Dimension and I don’t even subscribe to that BS as that would make Braid a 3D puzzler which it blatantly isnt..
The Killzone 2 trailer was fine but it didn’t even make my top 20 to be honest

God of War 3 (Fear Nothing) or Gears of War 3 where all the people turned to nothing?

When someone coins a term or applies it something it doesn’t necessarily have to be true to the bone. I mean why do Americans call Petroleum “Gas” or Carbon loaded Pencils “Grey Lead pencils” when there isn’t even any Lead in them (that would be dangerous lol).
The 4D isn’t there to describe Quantum mechanics, it just describes casually as you said, interactivity.
How about the Bioshock pre-render video, you liked that?

But what about the WOW cinematics? Those are damn good.

The Deus Ex trailer has to be the best from that list. It has meaning.
Doesn’t this Crysis 2 trailer remind you a bit of the GoW Mad World trailer?

No World of Warcraft cinematics? you gotta be kidding me…
Bobby Kotick used to play WOW
July 29, 2010 at 14:06
Have to kind of agree with Sleeper, WOW has some of the most amazing cinematics in gaming, but their GAME TRAILERS although atmospheric, relies on the ingame engine, and thus aren’t that visually pleasing.

No Wrath of the Lich King? It has to be one of the most epic cinematic trailers ever, it just breaks your heart when you get to the end. I cannot watch it without getting huge goosebumps
