I’m a newly converted fan of Bungie’s work. I’ve never really been much of a Halo adherent – but ODST and Reach have shown me the error of my ways. that said, I was pretty excited when Bungie, famed Halo developers, announced their independence from Microsoft, and with it, severed ties to the Halo franchise. Why would I be excited?
Mostly to see what they’d come up without outside of the Halo universe and, possibly, outside of the realm of first person shooters.
Consider my excitement dashed. I don’t like MMO’s at all – and that’s exactly what Bungie’s next game is going to be. Bungie lead network engineer David Aldridge confirmed to Game Developers conference attendees that their next game is a “massively multiplayer action game.”
Bah humbug! There are pretty much no other details about the game, although he’s debunked previous rumours of the game being “WoW in space.â€
What do you think? Will Bungie’s 10 year deal with Activision be as lucrative as both parties are hoping, or will the shift towards massively multiplayer gaming do the same to bungie as happened with APB developer Realtime Worlds?
