Long before Marvel struck gold with Iron Downey Jr and the rest of the Avengers, DC was planning their own big-screen adaptation of a kickass team of heroes. An adaptation that would have foregone the foreplay of a shared universe of solo flicks, and delved straight into the heroics of a squad of supers.

Justice League Mortal

And that was a film that was going to be helmed by George “Mad Mad: Fury Road” Miller back in 2007. It was a movie that got tantalisingly close to being made real, with an all-star cast of actors that included Armie Hammer(Batman), D.J. Cotrona (Superman), Megan Gale (Wonder Woman), Adam Brody (The Flash) and Common (Green Lantern). And then the Writer’s Strike of 2007 had to spoil all that fun.

After seeing the critical success of Mad Max: Fury Road, it’s easy to imagine Miller possibly directing a Justice League movie that would have seriously dented Disney and Marvel’s plans. And not only was the film neck-deep in pre-production before Warner Bros pulled the plug, but it was also wrapped up tighter than Nick’s pants after his Friday muffinganza.

But that’s a story that’ll be told soon in the documentary Miller’s Justice League Mortal, with what claims to be an official Twitter account revealing three pieces of concept art for the flick. Artwork that includes Wonder Woman, the Martian Manhunter and Aquaman. Check it:

While a Justice League film will eventually dawn in two parts (cha ching!) on November 17 2017 and June 14 2019, I’m quite curious to see more of what Miller’s superteam would have been like had his film gone forward.
