A number of the previously rumoured features of the PlayStation 4 have come true. If there’s one bit of speculation that I’m rather happy hasn’t, it’s the rumour that Sony’s next console would block out used games. That’s not happening.
Questioned by Eurogamer over whether or not the PS4 would block used games, Sony’s president of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida denied reports
"Yes. That’s the general expectation by consumers," said Yoshida. "They purchase physical form, they want to use it everywhere, right? So that’s my expectation." he said, before stating that "Used games can play on PS4."
Great news (especially for retailers who deal in used games!) – but there are still a few unknowns; Yoshida was a little coy – and it could be that the PS4 will play used games, but might require a second licence to be purchased online beforehand.
Still, you will be able to buy and sell your second hand games – and in the console market, that’s important.
I will say this – if Microsoft decides to block used games, it’ll be game over for the Xbox.

Sony won’t charge for the 2nd hand games to be played, that is something the software developers must answer and will decide.

If Xbox do that, game over man indeed! I’ll be turning into a finely tuned, ‘yo mumma’ PS fanboy.

No one will block used games… Sigh, it’ll be a long, filled with stupid rumours, wait ’till May.

With you on this mate. I wouldn’t put it past MS for deliberately waiting for SONY to release this first, see the reaction, and act accordingly.

This was Sony’s best
press conference in years. They focused on what the core gamers are looking for
games! The new controller looks beautiful and added everything gamers wanted;
headphone jack, improved grip, sticks, d-pad, and triggers. (Aside from the share
and options buttons [seriously bring back start and select])
In fact the only thing that most
people I’ve talked to were disappointed in, was in regard’s to 3 games:
Agent
Final Fantasy Versus XIII
The Last Guardian

Also Random though;
We should petition Sony for a high end SkU of the PS4 with backwards compatibility

I’ll just say, what an amazing event. It’s like they learnt from their mistakes this last gen, and are taking the bull by the horns. Now, Microsoft just needs to put in a strong showing and nextgen is going to be one epic battle.

But really, it will be interesting to see what Microsoft’s next move is. Lots of pressure now!

As unbelievable as it may sound, I’m actually rooting for the big M. And purely because SONY only pulled up their socks because Microsoft was such effective competition. The worst thing is when a company becomes complacent and arrogantly assumes that its fanbase is immaterial.

Lets also hope Sony stays true to their comments, they have a history of changing things to the detriment of gamers. Their current PS4 features are very rich and interesting but would love to know more about possible 4K screen support, multiple screen support, and if the PS Move will still be an option.
