Facebook services still appear to be down in many countries

We might be enjoying our social media fix today, but it appears things are not that way in some parts of the world. Facebook appears to be having some issues, leading to an outage of its social media platforms Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp in several parts of the world. While things all look fine in South Africa now after an outage last night, it appears that several countries are stillreporting issues with the US,  Canada, Turkey, Paraguay, India, Bangladesh, Peru and Argentina all unable to access these services at various intervals in the day, according to DownDetector, with further verification and investigation from The Verge.

Facebook confirmed the outage as well over (of all things) Twitter, also revealing that he issue is affecting certain features of their Oculus devices as well. At the time of writing, it appears that Facebook has resolved most of the issues, though it is not exactly clear what caused the outage, with Facebook ruling out that it is a result of a DDoS attack or something sinister.

The issue does not just affect Facebook applications directly, but also includes other applications which offer integration to Facebook, which are reportedly returning an error saying that this feature isn’t available right now.

While it appears most of the noise has died down on this issue, there has yet to be an official confirmation from Facebook that the issue is resolved, so it does appear that the issues are still under investigation.

I’m sure it’s a frustrating experience for many social media addicts, though I must say that I do feel a little left out as I think the world could be a better place without a bit of social media distracting us from our regular days and the world could be so much more peaceful without it all. We just need someone to take down Twitter too and all the worlds social problems could be solved in one foul swoop.

What a blessing; these people don’t know how wonderful life is without social media poisoning your mind.
