Kerrigan patched

The last part of the StarCraft II trilogy, Legacy of the Void, will be out in a little over month’s time. In preparation for the release, Blizzard have now updated Heart of the Swarm to 3.0. The patch brings with it not only a whole lot of changes and fixes to the RTS, but also unlock Whispers of Oblivion for everybody to enjoy.

Whispers of Oblivion, in case you’ve forgotten, is the prologue to Legacy of the Void. It’s been out for a while, but only exclusively to those who had pre-ordered the upcoming expansion. That’s no longer the case – access to the mini-campaign has now been granted to all.

With the upcoming changes in patch 3.0, all players will gain access to “Whispers of Oblivion,” a three-mission prologue featuring the legendary Dark Templar Zeratul. These missions serve as an introduction to the campaign, and help bridge the story between Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void. In Whispers of Oblivion, players will take part in the story of Zeratul for the first time since Wings of Liberty. Therein, they’ll seek to unravel the final piece of the Xel’naga prophecy.

I’ve played the three missions myself, and while short (it took me about an hour to complete them all), they did a good job in getting me excited for Legacy of the Void. If you have any sort of interest in StarCraft II, there is no excuse for skipping Whispers of Oblivion, especially now that it is free.

Beyond this little nugget of awesome free content, patch 3.0 also brings a lot of improvements to the overall StarCraft II experience. The most notable is of course, the overhauled User Interface.

That’s not all there is though. There are a bunch of other changes, all of which are too numerous to list here. You can read a more detailed account of patch 3.0 right here instead.

      yeah, a 2d plaster on a 3d face.

BUT, so they are now giving away something that I could have had should I have pre-ordered the game? How do the pre-order crowd feel about that?
