It’s all good and well being the hero/heroine in a story, but as everybody knows, the villain always has more fun. Sometimes at the expense of a few innocent people’s organs, yes, but fun nonetheless. So it comes as no surprise that Disney’s next big movie focuses on of their most famous villains. The first trailer introduced us to Angelina Jolie’s *cough* horny Maleficent, and now the second trailer is here with some more footage of her witchiness and a WHOLE LOT of Movie Guy Voice.

From Disney comes “Maleficent”—the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.

It will be interesting to see how director Richard Stromberg pulls off the balancing act of keeping Maleficent as the baddie we know from the original Disney cartoon – scenes from which can be glimpsed here in this trailer as well – and by giving her a more sympathetic streak, as somebody who just wanted to protect her land. Either way, did you see those cheekbones?!

Maleficent also stars Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville, and will be placing a spell on cinemas on May 30, 2014.

  1. She’s giving off quite the Morrigan/Flemeth vibe.

She does have somewhat of a bad girl quality to her character.
