I’m a bit of a daydreamer. When I’m not busy talking about movies/comics/games with you guys, or buried up to my nose in some computer hardware, I’m usually off gathering wool. Often times with Jackie Chan. Because my imagination is awesome.

But clearly I’m still an imaginary lightweight when it comes to Ben Stiller’s Walter Mitty, as can be seen in this fantastic new trailer for The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Ben Stiller directs and stars in “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” James Thurber’s classic story of a day-dreamer who escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker (Kristen Wiig) are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.

I love this type of enhanced reality films and this appears to not only be scratching that fantasy itch of mine, but also to offer a bittersweet mix of comedy and drama.

This script – which hews much closer to Thurber’s original story than the 1947 feature film adaptation of the same name – has been bouncing around Hollywood for more than a decade now already, with just about every major comic actor attached to it at some point or another, and with both Ron Howard and Steven Spielberg each also considering the director’s chair at different times.

But it’s Stiller, doubling up on duties as both director and star, that has finally turned this slice of imagination into reality, and judging from what I’ve seen thus far, he completely nails it.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty will be setting your minds free on December 25, 2013.

  1. This looks good, but I’ve seen Stiller play this kind of role so many times that I don’t know if I care to see him do it again.

Kervyn I agree with you mate! The trailers look awesome and it looks like old Stiller might actually be doing some seriously good acting. He’s got my full attention that’s for sure.
