Christian “I need a gorram lozenge” Bale is looking to have a busy 2012 so far, it seems. Between shooting commitments on the Terrence Malick films Lawless and Knight of Cups and the inevitable press tours and PR junkets for The Dark Knight Rises, the actor has also signed up now to star in the revenge-driven flick Out of the Furnace.
According to Empire, Bale will play the role of a recently released prisoner, who disastrously attempts to live honestly while somehow investigating and avenging the death of his younger brother.
Bale has been attached to the project before, back when it was known as The Low Dweller, which would have starred Leonardo Dicaprio and seen direction from Ridley Scott.
Instead, Scott and Dicaprio are producing, with Robert Duvall in negotiations to hop on board. All the film needs now is a suitable antagonist for Bale to wage war against, with director Scott “Crazy heart” Cooper looking to get Viggo Mortenson involved in the role.
As for Bale’s younger brother, that question is still up in the air, as actors such as Casey Affleck, Garett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch and Channing Tatum have all been rumoured to be attached to that role.
