After the divisive reviews received for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice earlier this year, there were rumours that Warner Bros was considering delaying the filming of the upcoming Justice League films. Warner Bros quickly they shot down that rumour and claimed that filming was still set to begin in April this year. Since that time though, we have not heard any further news on its production or seen any final casting lists. And if these latest rumours are true, it appears as if they are still trying to knuckle down some of the cast members of the film.
The new rumour was sparked over the 4th of July holiday, claiming that Colin Farrell and Game of Thrones star Michiel Huisman are in talks for unspecified roles. Now, as with all rumours, they can’t all be taken seriously and this one comes from a dubious Russian twitter account called ‘CutTheCrapTV’. So, while it’s likely not very credible, there could be some truth to it. Colin Farrell was previously rumored to be voicing John Constantine in the animated Justice League Dark. This could simply be something that transpired from those negotiations or they could be looking to bring the character to their live-action cinematic Universe too.
What we also know is that they are still in the process of finalizing casting roles, as Julian Lewis Jones has recently signed for a mystery role in the film.
Here is what Jones had to say about the news in an interview (revealed by MovieWeb):
I’m not allowed to say yet what part I play but let’s just say I’ve a role in what will likely be the most expensive film ever made. I’m just happy to have been involved and I’m looking forward to the movie’s release which will be next year.
While I wouldn’t say that the film has the most expensive cast in a film, as I’m pretty sure the Avengers films have more of an A-list cast than this one, I have no doubt that it is going to be a massive production. One big challenge director Zack Snyder is going to have is how he is going to handle all these characters in a way that doesn’t overwhelm viewers or making the film too long that it needs to be excessively cut.
The cast is already quite massive with Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash and Ray Fisher as Cyborg. Outside of the Justice League heroes, there is also Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Amber Heard as Mera, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon and Willem Dafoe set to play an Atlantean ally of Auqaman named Nuidis Vulko.
Even if you aren’t a fan of DC Comics or the Justice League, there should be no doubt that seeing this cast together on screen is going to be an epic event. If they get it right and work on rectifying the faults they’ve made in the BvS film, there is no doubt that it can be massive. And also give Marvel’s Avengers some competition.
In terms of which characters they are looking to introduce in the Justice League films, there is certainly a wide range to choose from. Which additional characters do you want to see added to the films or do you think the cast is already too big?
