[Spoilers for Kingsman: The Secret Service ahead]
It seems that we finally have a definitive answer to that burning Kingsman: The Golden Circle question – Is Colin Firth actually going to appear in the sequel? There have been many rumours and cryptic messages to suggest this would be the case, but there was no certainty behind it all… until now. As we can now officially confirm that Firth will once again be playing the popular character Harry Hart in the upcoming follow-up to the 2015 smash hit R-rated comic adaptation.
And while that is great news for Firth fans, it still leaves an even bigger mystery open to the rest of us – how did Hart survive the first film, considering that the last we saw of Harry was being shot in the face by the villainous Valentine? As a result, it seemed only logical at the time that Firth would not be returning for the sequel. Yet rumors persisted that he would, either via a twin, flashback, or “faked his own death” scenario, until the release of this teaser poster featuring Harry’s signature glasses over the text “Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.”
(spoiler finished – you can read on)
So, it’s certainly been one of those stories that has sparked a lot of interest in the sequel. Though, thanks to this Instagram post from new cast addition Pedro Pascal featuring Firth in full Harry Hart attire with the text “Hide behind Harry”, we can finally rest easy knowing that he will indeed be appearing.
Although that ‘how’ part is driving me crazy – and perhaps this has been there plan with this rumour all along. At first you would think keeping the whole thing a surprise would completely wow the audience when seeing the movie. However, this confirmation is likely to only fuel hype into the film. Fans are going to be driven crazy by all the possibilities and probably drive them into seeing the new film. I would like to say that I can withstand this type of marketing pressure, but the honest truth is that I can’t… Why is the movie not here yet?
The sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle will once again be directed by Matthew Vaughn who is co-writing the screenplay with Jane Goldman. This time the story finds Taron Egerton’s Eggsy, who is now a fully-fledged member of Kingsman, jetting off to America to work with Kingsman’s American counterparts, The Statesmen, run by Halle Berry’s character. But things take a turn and Eggsy and his colleagues are tasked with going up against Julianne Moore’s villain Poppy. And somewhere along the line, we are going to be
completely no longer surprised with Hart appearing again. In addition to Moore and Berry, the film has wracked up an impressive cast including Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges, Vinnie Jones, and Elton John.
Does this confirmation of Hart’s appearance make you feel more at ease about the film’s rumours or like me just make you want to see the film even more so you can get a conclusion to it all?
