Guys, seriously. What the crud has happened to Adrien Brody? This is a man who won an Oscar for one of the most harrowing physical performances ever captured on film, and who then spent the years since as a walking cautionary tale for the horrors of bad career choices. Sure he had a few highlights along the way, but most of it has been painfully low lowlights. Some would even cause you real physical pain just looking at them.
His latest PSA disguised as a movie is American Heist, a crime drama/thriller that seems like a patchwork of every major crime drama/thriller you’ve probably ever seen, with a little bit of wooden Hayden Christensen (is there any other kind?) and a dash of cheapness (just listen to those Leon Schuster punch sound effects!) thrown in just for good measure. Frankie (Hayden Christensen) and James (Adrien Brody) are two brothers with checkered pasts; one struggling on the road to normalcy, the other just released from prison. When one drags the other into an ill-fated bank robbery by a gang of dangerous criminals led by the nefarious Sugar (Akon), the loyalty of their sibling bond is tested and the brothers prove how far they will go for greed and family.
American Heist also stars Jordana Brewster and Akon. It has no scheduled release date yet.
