Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!
We like to think we’re kind of cool around here. How cool? Ice cold!…… And me saying that immediately made us uncool, right? Well, it’s a small price to pay if it provides me with the only possible way that I could think of to segue into this new clip from Disney’s Frozen which debuted on the official Disney app recently (hence the low-resolution). And yes, I know that was a really crappy way to start off today, but thanks to consecutive late nights I currently feel like warmed death, so its the best I could do. Now go watch the clip with the funny snowman!
It seems I need to start paying attention more. I thoroughly enjoyed the first three seasons of Neil “The Crying Game” Jordan’s historical drama The Borgias and was really looking forward to the fourth season to wrap things up. Turns out that there isn’t going to be a fourth season (Boo!), but Jordan was instead hoping to finish off the story with a 2-hour TV movie (Yay!). There’s just one problem: That isn’t happening any more either (Boo again!). So exactly how will I learn the fate of Jeremy Irons’ scheming Pope? I’ll have to read about it on the e-reader of my choice (Yay?).
Breaking #Borgias News! SHOWTIME and THE BORGIAS creator Neil Jordan are excited to announce the release of his new e-book, THE BORGIA APOCALYPSE, based on his original script for THE BORGIAS two-hour finale. THE BORGIA APOCALYPSE will be available this week via major e-retailers. We’re thrilled that the series’ loyal fans will have the opportunity to read Neil’s final farewell to one of history’s most infamous families.
A duo of new posters have broken out for Escape Plan. One shows the film’s stars Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger standing around – in jail cells! – with absurdly big assault rifles, and the other just goes the old “half a face poster” route, with Sly looking like he’s suffering from a sever case of constipation.
Hey, all my stinking rich friends! Yes, all zero of you! Got $1.5 million just laying around that you would like to give me? If you do, I can buy the house that Cameron Frye from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off stayed in. You know, this one. It’s a priceless piece of John Hughes movie memorabilia and you’re not even listening to me, are you?
Jason Momoa, who you may remember from such classic scenes as “screaming savage who rends men’s throats with his bare hands before mounting an uppity white haired girl”, is set to make his directorial debut with Road to Paloma. The Game of Thrones and Conan star has teamed with WWE Studios for the motorcycle drama that will also see Momoa star as “Robert Wolf, a Native American, who is being hotly pursued by the FBI for taking the law into his own hands after thugs rape and kill his mother on their reservation. Wolf crosses paths with Cash (Robert Homer Mollohan), a down and out musician, and an unlikely bond is formed as they motorcycle across the vast highways of the American West in search of redemption.”
Yes, Wolf and Cash. On the road in search of redemption. I’m sorry, did I accidentally stumble into a time vortex and now I’m reading about a TV series pitch from the late 80’s?
Hey, look! Here’s another pic of Sylvester Stallone and another old movie star. Also a black man. It’s the first officially released image from Grudge Match, which sees Stallone star opposite Robert De Niro as two retired, over the hill ex-boxing champs who get coaxed back into the ring to settle an old score. Kevin Hart – that would be the black man – plays their fight promoter.
Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Antonio Banderas. All big names that have recently joined Sylvester Stallone’s (yes, him again) Expendables 3, and now the final major role has been filled as Glen Powell has joined the cast and- Wait, who? Powell is a total newcomer whose biggest hit on his resume is starring as “Trader #1” in Chris Nolan’s Inception. Despite his lack of all-star credentials though, Stallone has apparently given the 24-year old actor one of the film’s lead roles as “a highly trained combat veteran who is also an expert hacker and drone pilot.”
We’ve long seen pop-culture media predicting the future, but if we were to go on what movies had to say, then I think we’d all start slitting our wrists now. That’s because according to Hollywood, the future sucks. Don’t believe me, then check out this article Ranking the 34 Most Horrifying Futures Seen in the Movies by Movies.com (no relation).
Despite how I’m still undecided on my feelings toward Iron Man 3‘s major plot twist, I got to admit, I just love hearing Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin talk in that stilted drawl of his. And now I can hear a teeny bit more of it, in this deleted scene from the film that will be showing up on the film’s Blu Ray release.
Have you been covering yourself in glitter and making out with ice-trays, or walking around in nothing but a ripped pair of denim shorts and a drawn on six-pack as you wait and pray for some more Twilight? Well, I got some bad news for you. It probably ain’t happening. Not if author Stephanie Meyer has anything to say about it.
“I get further away every day. I am so over it. For me, it’s not a happy place to be.What I would probably do is three paragraphs on my blog saying which of the characters died. I’m interested in spending time in other worlds, like Middle Earth.”
And just like that, the world’s first fanfiction showing Frodo as a vampire and Sam as werewolf who both fall in love with a dull, lifeless and completely devoid of emotion ring is born.
And while we won’t be getting more Twilight stories (Phew!), nobody said anything about rereleasing the old ones. Summit Entertainment have announced a new 10-disc Blu Ray boxset entitled Twilight Forever: The Complete Saga. The bundle’s November 5 release is set to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the first film’s debut. The boxset boasts “all five films, over 2 hours of brand new exclusive content and over 10 hours of every special feature ever created for the multi-billion dollar franchise” and comes in “a double-sided box that highlights beloved characters, one side featuring Edward and Bella and the other side featuring Jacob; and the discs are held in a commemorative photo album highlighting some the most iconic moments from the entire saga.”
Guess I know what I’m getting Darryn for Christmas. You know, if I would ever actually bother to get Darryn something for Christmas.
I normally try to end off the day with some type of funny or charming clip or short film. This short film, Inseparable, is neither of those things. What it is, is a good reason to have a solid cry. And seeing as it will be Sherlock and Star Trek Into Darkness star Benedict Cumberbatch’s absolutely amazing performance in this film that will be jerking on them tears, I don’t even think anybody would hold it against you.
When young dad, Joe, discovers he’s dying, drifter Charlie is given a unique opportunity to turn his life around. A story of family, identity and starting again.
