As much as the Wood of Holly tends to dominate the movie business, I’ve always had a thing for the films from our ex-colony masters from across the pond. I guess all that English rain and fog just lends itself well to moody thrillers, which is exactly what Blood, a new cop thriller with a twist, appears to be, judging from this first trailer (via Empire). It stars four of Britain’s top thespians in Paul Bettany, Stephen Graham, Brian Cox and Mark Strong, and looks like the just the type of movie to watch over some tea and sandwiches.
Well, except for all the “cop beating a wrongfully accused suspect to death” bits, but other than it looks like vintage British cinema.
The Fairburn brothers (Paul Bettany and Stephen Graham) are detectives who have lived under the shadow of their police chief father (Brian Cox), a man known for doing whatever it takes to get a confession. When the brothers take an interrogation too far, they raise the suspicions of their colleague (Mark Strong) and suddenly find themselves having to cover up their own crimes.
Blood will be out on limited release on August 9, 2013. No word yet on a wider international release.
