The has been lots of talk over the last couple of years regarding doing a proper Indiana Jones sequel/reboot. I say proper because 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull just never lived up to all of the hyped up nostalgia… for me anyways.
Debates have been continuing about who the guy is that should take over the dusty Fedora and whip from Harrison Ford. I have read names like Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt (probably my favorite pick) and even Liam Neeson being thrown into the wide-brimmed hat – while some people think that Shia Lebeouf should take the franchise forward. Those people are crazy.
The name that majority of fans would love to hear though when it comes to playing the iconic archaeologist is Indiana himself, Mr Harrison Ford. It turns out the actor has wishes to make a return to the role he says is his favourite character.
In an interview with EW Ford had the following to say on the subject.
Oh, yeah. Yeah, I’d love to do another Indiana Jones
A character that has a history and a potential, kind of a rollicking good movie ride for the audience, Steven Spielberg as a director — what’s not to like?
Now about a month ago Kervyn dropped a little knowledge from producer Frank Marshall that Ford will not be replaced and elaborated more on the reboot with the following statement:
(We’re) not doing the Bond thing where we’re going to call somebody else Indiana Jones. We have to figure this out. There are a lot of rumors. We haven’t even sat down to talk about Indy yet… at some point we’ll sit down. But there’s a bunch of people who could probably take the baton.
I don’t know about the rest of you but all I want to take from this is Indiana Jones 5, Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg. If these elements can align then I will be a very happy man indeed!
What do you think? Would you rather see someone younger coming in to take over the franchise and move it forward with the possibility for a couple of sequels? If so who is your preferred choice?
