Looks like Hugh Jackman won’t be playing the role of the Canadian slasher until the day he dies, as the actor recently revealed that the next time we see the fast-healing mutant, will be the last time. Having owned the role since the 2000 X-Men film, Jackman has portrayed the Wolverine for a total of seven films so far, narrowly beating Dougray Scott to land the coveted role for the original Bryan Singer directed film.
But it looks like Jackman is ready to sheathe his claws, as the next James Mangold directed solo movie will be his final role, according to his Instagram:
It’s not exactly too difficult to imagine Jackman putting his adamantium claws away. After 15 years, he’s put a ton of effort into the character, bulking up massively for each film and becoming Huge Jacked Man every two or so years. That’s a ton of strenuous effort to keep up, as Jackman’s Wolverine has provided a solid link to the new and old X-Men movie casts.
It’s still unclear what role Jackman will have in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse either, if he is even cast. It’s highly doubtful that that particular ensemble film will see the end of Jackman, with the effort rather being reserved for the James Mangold solo movie. And I’d dig to see a Death Of The Wolverine movie, to bring the Jackman era to a close.
As for what that movie will even be about, very few clues are available, besides Patrick “Professor X” Stewart teasing a team-up between Charles Xavier and Logan. As I said, full circle baby! Wolverine’s story began with Professor X, and it’d be great to see him there at the end.
Still, Wolverine is the best there is at what he does, and what he does is make money. Which means that the character will eventually be recast. So who would you like to see take over from Jackman, if such an actor is even capable of doing so?
