Jason Statham is on Heat

Whoa, calm down Michael Mann heist film fans. Hollywood may be rebooting and remaking every single film that they can get their hands on lately, but not the cult classic 1995 film that starred Al Pacino and Robert Deniro.

Instead, Statham is going to be joining director Brian De Palma for a remake of the 1986 Burt Reynolds film of the same name.

Statham will play a recovering gambling addict who helps out people on the fringe of society, for a small fee of course. Instead of using guns to protect though, Statham instead uses knives and boots-to-asses fighting methods instead.

After a friend of his is nearly killed by a mobster though, Statham hulks out and swears revenge. So expect another film of mindless violence, explosions and half-naked women. Or as Statham calls it, Tuesday.

William Goldberg has written the script that was adapted from the original screenplay that was based on the book, that went under the name of Edged Weapons.

In the mean time, catch Statham in the action-thriller Safe, as well as the sequel to the star-studded testosterone festival, The Expendables 2. Although I wish movie executives had instead chosen to put Statham in a remake of that other Burt Reynolds classic film instead, Hooper.

For a second there, I possessed the burning rage of a thousand suns.

Hope they let De Palma go full on bos in terms of style. One cinema’s purest pleasures is watching a director like De Palma go full on with camera and editing tricks. Watch the pool bar scene in Carlito’s Way or the train station sequence in the Untouchables for example. Or the prom scene in Carrie.

You don’t hire a director like De Palma and then ask him to tone down his style. Let him go bos!

I for one am looking forward to this film based on how much I’ve enjoyed a lot of De Palma’s work
