Hearing that James Spader was cast as the voice of Ultron in the upcoming Avengers sequel was wonderful news to me. Primarily because it forced Kervyn to ditch a massive article that he had spent plenty of time working on, drawing links to the fact that it would be JARVIS that would become the killer robot and AI system.
Also, James Spader is a great actor yadda yadda yadda. Here’s what director Joss Whedon had to say about his casting decision.
Speaking in the video below from Marvel, Whedon confessed that Spader may be a master of hypnotism:
Spader was my first and only choice. He’s got that hypnotic voice that can be eerily calm and compelling, but he’s also very human and humorous. Ultron is not Hal (from 2001: A Space Odyssey). Spader can play all of the levels. He’s the guy to break The Avengers into pieces.
I’m curious to see how Ultron is visually translated onto the big screen. He’s pretty much one of the big bads in comic books now, with the recent mini-series that shares a name with the sequel film, Age of Ultron, proving just how deadly he could be.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron is out in 2015. Don’t trust anything with a microchip until then.

Well, they’re actually just using the title from the mini-series. Whedon is coming up with his own original story.
