MANDELA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM – So what did you think?

This weekend past saw the release of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, and much like the leader whose story it tells, the biopic rewrote the history books. The film opened on Thursday evening to a whopping R751 000 take, breaking the local record for the biggest non-holiday Thursday box office haul. Was your ticket one of those, and if so, what did you think of the film. Nick thought that while the film boasted superb acting and some great insights, it told its spanning story too fleetingly, diminishing its impact.

Do you agree, do you think the film lived up to Nelson Mandela’s great legacy or do you think this film should rather have stayed locked up in movie jail?

As always, this is for people who have already seen the film, so BEWARE SPOILERS if you haven’t.

  1. I haven’t seen this yet, but I suspect few will do so on cinema. Biopics seem to be doing worse and worse on the big screen, because they don’t have the bells and whistles that make a ticket worth the price.
