Guys, there’s no easy way to break the news to you. If you wish that Despicable Me’s overexposed minions would die a horrible death after being shot into the cold, dark vacuum of space, then buckle: After this weekend, you can bet that more Minion movies are on the way.
That’s because the predictably first movie starring the little yellow bastards raked in over $115.2 million on opening weekend. That’s higher than Pixar’s latest animated offering Inside Out ($90.4 million), the first Despicable Me ($56.3 million) and even its sequel ($83.5 million).
Here’s how everyone else did at the US box office, according to estimates, while I go cry in the shower at having to endure more of these little creeps in the near future:
- Minions – $115.2 Million
- Jurassic World – $18.1 Million
- Inside Out – $17.1 Million
- Terminator Genisys – $13.7 Million
- The Gallows – $10 Million
- Magic Mike XXL – $9.6 Million
- Ted 2 – $5.6 Million
- Self/Less – $5.3 Million
- Baahubali: The Beginning – $3.5 Million
- Max – $3.4 Million
Top ten departures this week include Spy and San Andreas. The Melissa McCarthy comedy raked in a respectable $219.8 million worldwide, while Dwayne Johnson had an Earth-shattering hit on his hands, to the tune of over $449 million worldwide after a seven week run at the US box office.
