WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR!
With Avengers: Infinity War, co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo needed to make sure that we knew from the get-go that Thanos was not somebody to be trifled with. We got an inkling of this when he beat Hulk so badly that the Green Goliath spent the rest of the movie doing an impersonation of Darryn on a plane, just cowering with a proverbial blanket over his head refusing to face the world. That wasn’t enough though. Showing off physical strength was impressive, but you needed to know that the stakes were real. And so he killed Loki.
For a long time considered the very best villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was kind of poetic to see the life crushed out Tom Hiddleston’s Asgardian god of mischief by the new very best villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With that fitting send-off, the story of Loki was complete… well, until Disney set off on a quest for that Netflix money.
With upcoming streaming service Disney+ launching later this year, the House of Mouse will anchor their new platform with a number of high-profile TV series spinoffs of their two most prized franchises in Star Wars and Marvel, one of which would be focusing on Loki. But how do you do a TV series about a dead guy? Well, you simply get up to some
A new report from THR has revealed that longtime Rick & Morty writer Michael Waldron has now been tapped as the showrunner for the upcoming series. In the report though, we get the first plot details as THR’s sources indicate that “the show will follow Loki as the trickster and shape-shifter pops up throughout human history as an unlikely influencer on historical events.” Marvel declined to comment when THR reached out to confirm the veracity of this blurb, but this is a potentially interesting way to get around Loki’s death as Asgardians are so long-lived that they can set this just about anywhere before the events of 2018. Hell, more than likely, it will be dealing with things that he got up to before he took his villainous turn in the first Thor film. This does mean they can minimize the necessity to bring in a certain thunderous sibling, though at least one cameo from Chris Hemsworth’s Thor would be expected.
It also means Waldron and co have the freedom to tell any number of different types of stories at any point in time (If that approach reminds you of a particular long-running British sci-fi show featuring an alien with a thing for screwdrivers and flying police boxes, then note that I didn’t use that “
There is some more pessimistic speculation among some fans
Alongside the Loki show, Disney is also developing other series such as The Vision and Scarlet Witch which has Captain Marvel scribe Jac Schaeffer attached as showrunner, while another, under the stewardship of Empire writer Malcolm Spellman, will focus on the

There’s already a Loki series airing that’s far more interesting than this sounds.

I still think that Disney + is going to be fairly minimal. There are too many services that folk need to subscribe to now. Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Showmax if you are in ZA, etc.
Yet another sub? I can’t see a lot of people simply taking on an extra payment and definitely can’t see anyone dropping any of the others to take Disney+ alone due to it being literally only Disney programs. No matter how great Marvel as a franchise is.

You are completely underestimating the pulling power of Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and Disney itself. Those are some of the biggest brands in the history of our planet. People will pay just to watch The Mandalorian (and I would know, because I am one of them) I mean, if they announce an X-men animated series for the service, that alone will drive sales like crazy.

Fair enough. I’m a massive Star Wars nerd but yeah, still can’t see me taking on more content services. Not unless it’s super cheap. But who are we kidding. This is Disney

We don’t have a confirmed price yet, but Disney’s Bob Iger has previously indicated that they know they don’t have the content of Netflix so they will launch at a much lower price than Netflix. They have a long term strategy to build up their library and when they do I’m sure the price will increase accordingly.

If the increase in gaming clients in anything to go by, a lot of people will just turn to pirating. It’s already happening in gaming. Especially places like SA where an extra R100 is actually a meaningful amount of money.

In SA those brands are at the lower end of the spectrum in terms of popularity, but I imagine in the US and Europe it’ll get a lot of subs for those few names alone.

Well, SA is a tiny drop in the pop culture ocean.

People with kids will 100% get the service. Outside of that? Yeah uptake won’t be great I imagine

I have a kid. I will use Netflix kids shows. So, yeah… Look I am not saying no one will. I just don’t think it will be as amazing as Disney envision it to be

Oh I think they’re pulling an Activision here and putting too much expectation on this. But there will definitely be people who’ll get the service for their Disney properties. Mostly, again, kids. But I guess 100% was a bit optimistic from my side too. XD

hehe. Absolutely there will be folk who do. But as you said, the expectation is definitely too high from their side I am sure.
One can’t even see it as a competitor to Netflix. In fact they can’t be compared to anything like Netflix, Amazon, etc, because the content is limited to a single brand only.
Will definitely be one of those “ad-on” things if there’s enough disposable income and for a very small set of people.

Remember who Disney owns. It’s not just one brand. Besides for Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and the in-house Disney stuff, there’s the gigantic list of properties they’re inheriting from Fox.

but my question is, is it enough? I dunno hey. But, I have been known to be wrong. Most times in fact

In our market not so much, but the Western Market is much more of a hype beast, and it should pull decent subscribers there.

Yea. I’m not bothered with Disney+
It’s the same as gaming clients. It’s overkill now. Stick to the ones with majority content and ease. If you miss out on one or two things…meh.
