New Line won't be going on VACATION any time soon

Hollywood has had plenty of franchises that have just refused to die with dignity. The Ernest movies, Police Academy and Tyler Perry are just a few such examples. And then you’ve got the Vacation series from New Line Cinema, part of the National Lampoon franchise.

New Line Cinema has been working on a new Vacation movie for years now, one which would see Ed Helms and Christina Applegate take over from Chevy Chase. With a script in place, directors chosen and pre-production doen, it looked like go time for another one of those films. And then things changed.

According to THR, the biggest issue with the films right now is that they’re just not family friendly enough, something evident by the fact that current National Lampoon films happen to be voyeuristic masturbation material train wrecks that were scripted by orangutans on heat. Currently, the crew behind the film wants a PG 13 rating, while other backers are pushing for a more adult rating of R for Restricted. Writers Jonathan Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are also set to direct the film, and they’re not keen on lessening the market appeal with an adults-only rating.

As for the film itself, it’s meant to be a reboot of the original one, with Helms as Rusty Griswold, all grown up and ready to take his family on a vacation, with original stars Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo cameoing as his parents.

Meh.

  1. Changing it to a family friendly comedy…have any of these people actually seen the original films? Go ask Eddy Murphy and Adam Sandler how well changing to family friendly comedies have worked for their careers.
