New trailer for Iron Fist season 2 introduces Steel Serpent

Okay, Beavis, I need you to stop sniggering. I know how that headline sounds, but I promise that this isn’t some kind of porn parody. This is serious business. SERIOUS. Just like the first season of Marvel’s Iron Fist which somehow decided that instead of focusing on the part of its story where the hero is a badass kung fu fighter who punched an immortal dragon in the heart, it would rather double down on the corporate takeover angle.

And let’s not forget that instead of showcasing the awesomeness of best martial arts practitioner in Marvel Comics, we had Finn Jones’ physically inept version of Danny Rand who managed to just barely make his way through the type of fight choreography usually reserved for professional wrestling matches. As I’ve mentioned with the first two teaser trailers for the upcoming second season Iron Fist though, Marvel appears to be trying to course correct here. Showrunner Scott Buck (who also ruined my other favourite comic book property, The Inhumans, by the way) is out and replaced by M. Raven Metzner,  Jones actually went and had proper kung fu training this time around, and they even dropped the episode count down to 10 from 13 episodes so we can have less whiny Danny Rand filler.

Now we have a new full trailer for the show, and I’ll be damned if this doesn’t look way better. Might I even say… good? (just don’t quote me on that when my early assessment inevitably gets proven wrong). And whereas the second teaser gave us a glimpse of the rivalry between Jones’ Rand and Sacha Dhawan’s Davos, this new trailer puts it front and centre, even showing us how Davos gains his own powers to become Steel Serpent. If you know your comic book lore, then you know that Steel Serpent is a major villain… so let’s just all say a prayer to any deities that will listen in the hope that they don’t mess up another favourite comic book character for me.

Hey, what’s that we saw at the 01:12 mark? That is definitely a corpse of a former Iron Fist (although the first season didn’t make it clear, the title of Immortal Weapon of K’un-Lun is a generational one) and I’ll bet dollars to donuts that it’s actually Orson Randall. He’s the most famous other Iron Fist who discovered a way to channel his chi not just into his fist, but his firearms as well, becoming the only Iron Fist to use guns. Writer Matt Fraction’s Immortal Iron Fist run is easily the most influential run of the comic, and Orson Randall played a huge part of it so it would make perfect sense to bring him in as well.

Also, besides for mummified heroes, this trailer also makes it abundantly clear that Simone Missick’s Misty Knight is joining the team. In the comics, Misty and Coleen Wing (played Jessica Henwick in ass-kicking fashion again) are team called Daughters of the Dragon, and the actresses have teased that you will start to see that happen in this upcoming season.

Marvel’s Iron Fist season 2 is set to premiere on Netflix in three weeks on 7 September.

    I kinda enjoyed season 1.
It wasn’t smashing and I can understand why a lot of people didn’t like it, but I still watched.

Keen for season 2, as I like the whole “The Defenders” spin-off universe and so on.

The choreography is not selling it for me. I’ll wait for the reviews.
