New TV spot for SPECTRE teases a secret

1 min read

Unless you’ve been trapped in Nick’s basement living under a rock the last few months you know there’s a new James Bond movie releasing soon, and with the marketing ramping up we’ve got a new TV spot with some new footage to show you. And just in case you have indeed been living under said rock send help I can hear him coming let me remind you of what it’s all about:

A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.

A secret you say? While holding a burnt photograph of what I’m assuming is a young James Bond, a parental figure, and another young person with their head burnt off? I bet R10 he’s almost going to kiss his sister. Don’t have to feel so guilty about that anymore, Luke.

I thoroughly enjoyed the last James Bond outing, Skyfall, and judging by this trailer Spectre has the same, more grounded, blend of action and intrigue the modern Bond movies are pursuing, but with some nice throw-backs for long time fans – Bond’s Aston Martin seems to have received a gadget-powered upgrade and, it’s right there in the name, the return of SPECTRE.

Spectre, directed by Sam Mendes, stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Monica Bellucci, Christoph Waltz and Dave Bautista, and opens on 6 November.

    Spoilers I guess…
Regarding that photo, I would have gone with it being a young Christoph Waltz, but I like your theory better

My Idea for the next James Bond film after Spectre, let James Bond be a rank you achieve in MI6. So we have many aiming to be Bond, and then they have to train and be taught my ex-lovers, taught how to act and be James Bond. This will explain why we see a new face every couple of years.

That’s been the popular theory around the many James Bonds. But it wouldn’t gel with the books. In those it states that the double-oh designation is already the rank, so agents work towards being a double-oh, which basically makes them the fixers of MI6. Double-ohs are sent in when other measures have failed or something has gone wrong.

Despite the 007, there aren’t actually seven or ten or anything like that. There could be – one of the early movies showcased nine or ten double-ohs in a room – though you only see Bond’s face. The lowest number of operational double-ohs I’ve read about in the books was three. Also, the villain from Goldeneye was a former double-oh.

So perhaps they should do a spin-off that explores more double-ohs or people trying to reach that rank. But James Bond is actually pretty distinct – clearly an individual who has a lot of contacts and quite a career.

I think Bond’s explored more than enough of the mythical double-o’s. 😉
