Since it’s my job to report the movie news and your job to just read it, you probably don’t follow a looooooong list of international film press/film industry people on social media like I do. If you did though, you would more than likely have seen a large portion of them spend this past Friday and Saturday talking about Free Fire, the latest film from UK filmmaking wunderkind Ben Wheatley which just debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival over the weekend.
And the buzz coming out of TIFF for the Free Fire has been insane! Besides for a very lively and game cast led by Sharlto Copley, Brie Larson, Armie Hammer and more, many are describing Free Fire as a mix of the Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs and Guy Ritchie’s Snatch/Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, all filtered through Wheatley’s off-kilter brand of comedy and splashy violence, with everything turned up to eleven!
If you finding that hard to picture, don’t worry as the film’s red band trailer has also been released and it’s completely insane! But in all the right ways! Check it out below:
Free Fire is a 1970’s-set, blood-spattered tale of a weapons deal hone to hell that climaxes in a violent standoff in a warehouse. Lots of guns, bullet hits, profanity and wanton killing ensues.
Holy hell! I definitely cannot wait to see this!
Free Fire also stars Cillian Murphy, Jack Reynor, Sam Riley, Enzo Cilenti, Michael Smiley, Babou Ceesay and Noah Taylor. It opens in the UK on March 31, 2017, but no other international release dates have been set yet.
