Today. Today… At the edge of our hope, at the end of our time, we have chosen not only to believe in ourselves, but in each other. Today there is not a man nor woman in here that shall stand alone. Not today. Today we face the monsters that are at our door and bring the fight to them! Today, we are cancelling the apocalypse! With a Pacific Rim sequel!

Yup, Pacific Rim 2 is now officially Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, as lead actor John Boyega shared a photo online of the script:

Not to be outdone, director Steven DeKnight also shared an image of his fancy as f*** clapper for Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.

Time to revive the Apocalypse then. I’m still trying to guess which direction Pacific Rim: Maelstrom will go in as John Boyega leads a new a crew of pilots. Remember, at the end of the first film the Jaeger program was all but demolished as the last remaining mechs were destroyed. Striker Eureka, Crimson Typhoon, Cherno Alpha and Gypsy Danger were all that stood between the breach and humanity being overrun by an army of class five Kaiju, with those war machines eventually falling alongside their pilots.

Even though Gypsy Danger may have utterly obliterated the invaders with a last-ditch effort, there’s most likely more Kaiju waiting to be unleashed by those unfriendly dimensional neighbours of ours. Although really, if I was in charge of the Jaeger initiative, my plan would consist of having Jaegers man the breach 24/7 and play whack a mole with any Kaiju that stuck its head through.

Anyway, production is now officially underway then on Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, with a scheduled release date of February 23, 2018. Here’s hoping that the sequel finally wraps up one lingering plot thread that I’ve been dying to see resolved: Hannibal Chau’s missing shoe.
