Ruby Rose exits Batwoman after a single season

Batwoman (2)

Holy bombshell departures Batman, I did not see this happening! With its first season done and dusted, CW’s Batwoman series has been a smash hit for the network and will definitely be back once life resumes at a more normal pace. The only problem? Batwoman herself, won’t be suiting up again as star Ruby Rose has announced that she’ll be vacating the cape and cowl.

“I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season,” Rose said in a statement via THR.

Batwoman (1)

This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles. I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created.

Thank you Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and the CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me. Thank you to everyone who made season one a success—I am truly grateful.

A new Batwoman will need to be cast for the second season, with the CW and Warner Bros. wishing rose all the best in their own statement:

Batwoman (1) (2)

Warner Bros. Television, the CW and Berlanti Productions thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best. The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we—along with the show’s talented creative team—look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.

So why is Rose leaving Batwoman? That’s a mystery that would stump even the Riddler. Variety says that Rose’s exit is not due to on-set injuries (of which she incurred some MAJOR damage), although no one would blame her for wanting to not be paralysed for life while dressed up as a bat. Other speculation points to the exit coming from the brutal workload of shooting a TV series, dealing with the most toxic of fans and the endless press junkets needed to hype the show.

It’s not down to ratings either, as Batwoman was the third most-watched show on the CW, so who really knows? Until then, the hunt is on for a new actor to take up the mantle of the bat and fill some big bat-boots when Batwoman returns for a second season.

  1. But on the surprising and good news front, I’m reading more and more that the Snyder Cut of JL is very close to being released!
And no, I’m not one of those fanboys clamouring for it. But I am very curious to see it!

Shit, looks like I’m going to need to start adding some Tabasco sauce to rubber and eat my cowl if this happens, according to the promise I made.

I’m actually hoping for it. The movie, not that thing you’re looking to do.
I read that Snyder did a screening for some WB execs, and that the cut might end up streaming on HBO+.
I’d really love to see it!

I am watching it through DSTV and I am not sure I like it. Does it get better with time, or is this just another one of these shows I can’t watch? The last two season of Arrow lost me, Supergirl lost me very early on. Flash and Legends of Tomorrow works both for me. But this Batwoman series I am not sure about yet.

It doesn’t get better. You know that first episode where they basically show all their cards? That’s as good as it’ll ever get.

If you survived episode 2 and carried on like a mad man, you would realise it doesn’t get better, but you stick with it, because the cringe is off the charts and you just want to see where this particular sewer pipe leads…

No offence to anyone who enjoys the shows, but the entire Arrowverse is mediocre actors with mediocre writers doing fan service storylines. It took me a very long time to reach that point of realisation, but now that I have, it’s hard to go back and watch it.

But its impact especially to teenagers cannot be overstated, even if superhero stuff isn’t as popular now as it was five years ago. So the fact that she left is big question marks. Not in a “FEMINIST OWNED BY FACTS AND LOGIC” way but in a “this person was an icon to many, and something made them not want to be that icon” which is, I guess bizarre?

I wish her well though. Imho she’s better than the CW.

Never watched this. One show that I will never….NEVA EVA watch again is Teen Titans. The crap VFX just killed it. I slogged through season 2 and by the end I realized I was hate watching. Not because I didn’t like the show, not because the characters sucked, But because I know the VFX were a cheap and pathetic afterthought with no budget. That thing in the first episode was terrible. When you have something as insane as The Outsider or The Expanse, Questions need to be answered.

You know, my first comment was going to be lots of good riddance, and laughing out loud; but you make points that make me feel bad. There is a market for these shows and it´s giving Teens a place for some comicbook stuff I didn´t have. And also I remember playing this character was a dream for Ruby Rose, so I hope it wasn´t toxic fandom (which is hypocritical on my part)

It’s weird that folks get their panties in a knot. Just don’t watch it if it bothers you, that’s my philosophy. Where it becomes irksome is when people cram stuff down your throat and try and force you to like it. Also, kak vfx….

Second season of Titans was a massive letdown… :/ It really makes me worried for the next season of Umbrella Academy and the Boys. It really seems like many shows fail in their second season – maybe it really is a case of catching lightning in a bottle.

I’ve been burnt so many times, I would love to be optimistic, but all it takes these days is a nutty writer or producer who watched too many Anita Sarkeesian youtube videos… and blam… LAST OF US 2… 🙁

If the next season of The Boys fails to deliver, I’m cancelling all my subscription services, shaving my hair and becoming a buddhist monk.

Well…Netflix : Extraction. So maybe this soft censorship we’ve been experiencing over the last few years is finally coming to an end. Amazon, although slow with their content, has some very watchable shows.

lol, I can’t blame her, Batwoman was probably the worst thing to emerge out of the Arrowverse since that first season of Legends (which strangely found its feet later on). I was merely watching it for the cringe-factor – every episode left you questioning whether Hollywood was being run by a bunch of illiterate monkeys or merely a massive money laundering operation.

But, I guess even Ruby realised that it was a open sewer and decided she had to be free of it.

    You go, girl!

Always found it funny calling it Arrowverse. But then again, it’s fitting when you have a bunch of mediocre TV shows that you refer it to a superhero that’s neither as strong as Superman or as smart as Batman. But a guy with a bow and arrow.

Now hang on there, Ollie was an awesome, yet delightfully broken character when Vertigo was publishing mature Green Arrow graphic novels. 🙁 I think for a brief moment in time, he was my favourite… https://media1.giphy.com/media/13qH129I8SjUo8/giphy.gif

That’s why I’m pretty sure it’s a money laundering operation. Money gets shuffled through terrible shows. Chinese investors actually pay for the shows, whereas organised crime gets all the returns and more….

Now there’s a conspiracy theory, I can get behind 😛
