While Shailene Woodley may not be getting any Spider-Man money in 2014 (or possibly ever!), you sure as hell won’t be seeing her on the unemployment line any time soon. Losing out on a big franchise ain’t no thang when you’ve got an upcoming tentpole franchise of your own, with a loyal fanbase already built in. No assembly required.

The up and coming actress will be headlining Divergent, the feature film adaptation of Veronica Roth’s popular YA sci-fi novel of the same name. The film may still be more than a year away, but Summit apparently like what they’re seeing, as not only have they already greenlit a sequel, but they’re kicking off the promo campaign quite early.

DIVERGENT is a thrilling adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.

There have been a lot of YA adaptation failures lately, with The Host and Beautiful Creatures deservedly crashing and burning. Summit have certainly assembled a much higher caliber of cast and crew for this one (Neil Burger, director of the surprisingly decent Limitless is helming), and they seem to be going the Katniss Everdeen route, selling Woodley’s Tris as an independent female who can kick as much ass as the boys, if not more.

This should really confuse Darryn, who already thinks she is just a boy with hippy hair.

Divergent will be punching up cinemas on March 21, 2013/
