Summer-Anime-2019

It’s summer…in a completely different hemisphere. With the changing of seasons comes a whole new library of anime to watch, as the Japanese studios responsible for 213% of the nation’s entertainment has been hard at work, whipping their animation departments to crack out some brand new content. While plenty of fantastic established series and Boruto: Next Generation are returning, here’s a look at all the new series which will be making a splash later this month and kicking off the summer anime season.

Dr. Stone

Now this excites me! The breakout Shonen Jump hit series finally gets an anime adaptation, as the world finds itself bathed in a mysterious light that turns everyone who sees it into stone. Three thousand years later, genius high school student Senku awakens from his slumber and begins the journey to drag mankind out of the stone age and back into an era of science and discovery.

Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou

Isekai action, starring Hajime Nagumo  as he finds himself pulled into a fantasy world with the rest of his class. Only catch here? While Hajime’s class is given a range of godlike powers with which to save the world, he finds himself stuck with the role of Synergist, the weakest class that only has one single transmutation skill available.

Vinland Saga

A tale of Vikings and conquest, Vinland Saga has a simple premise: Young warrior Thorfinn sets out on a quest to avenge the death of his legendary father as he spends his childhood sharpening his blade and skills for the day when he can finally claim revenge.

Enen no Shouboutai/ Fire Force

Fighting fire with fire! This new series takes place in a future where Spontaneous Human Combustion has created a race of evil fire spirits, and the only way to stop them is with a dedicated force of combat magician firefighters.

Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator

Psychic powers aren’t jus real, they’re overflowing in Academy City as the metropolis is filled with millions of active Espers whose abilities range from the weak-willed Level 1s to the almighty Level 5s. Amongst the strongest of these Level 5 espers is a man named Toaru Kagaku, who finds himself embroiled in a massive conspiracy that threatens Academy City and may be too much for even his vast power to handle.

Isekai Cheat Magician

Another Isekai series, this time featuring high school students Taichi and Rin as they find themselves transported to a fantasy land and given overwhelming power, just like the plot of 97% of this genre.

Lord El-Melloi II Sei no Jikenbo: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note

Inheritance! Mystery! A game of Wits wherein various contestants compete in a game to secure vast riches and fame. If they can survive that is.

Tsuujou Kougeki ga Zentai Kougeki de Ni-kai Kougeki no Okaasan wa Suki Desu ka?

A government scheme, a game world and a journey into a game world…along with a mother along for the ride. Look, anime is weird okay.

How Heavy are the Dumbbells You Lift? Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru

You’ve seen anime dedicated to basketball, baseball and golf! Now prepare for an anime that’s all about…getting into shape! After consuming one too many calorie-heavy meals, Sakura Hibiki starts noticing a little bit of a weight gain around her tummy and enrols into a local gym so that she can get back into shape. Which just so happens to include her muscle-obsessed pal Souryuuin Akemi. Heavy weights and many reps await the two girls as they juggle life with exercise.

Kawaikereba Hentai demo Suki ni Natte Kuremasu ka?

Remember when harem anime shows were all the rage? This is basically that, but described as the Cinderella of random underwear love letters, so this is probably going to be a weeeeeeiiiiiiiiird love comedy.

Maou-sama, Retry!

More Isekai! Oono Akira gets zapped into a fantasy world, meets a young girl who shows him the ropes and together they travel the land. Only problem here, is that Akira happens to be residing in the body of the greatest evil known to the land, the dread Demon Lord. Wacky hijinks and misunderstandings ensue!

Tejina-senpai

Guy joins high school. School demands that he join an extramural club. Dude bumbles into the Magic club, whose president is a whizz at performing illusions but cannot master the one trick that would make her a magic superstar: Her crippling stage fright. Fun times!

Bem

Sort of like X-Men, as Bem, Bela, and Belo can transform into hideous Youkai demons who protect humanity from evil creatures hellbent on their destruction, even if the populace hates and fears them in return.

Nakanohito Genome [Jikkyouchuu]

SAW meets video games, as a group of kis with skills in various games find themselves kidnapped and forced to work together to escape a Llama-headed madman who tests their abilities in various “levels”.

Uchi no Ko no Tame naraba, Ore wa Moshikashitara Maou mo Taoseru kamo Shirenai

AKA If It’s For My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord, a young prodigy soon finds himself thrust into the role of an adoptive father when he rescues a devil child by the name of Latina and becomes tangled in a web of intrigue in addition to his usual adventuring duties.

Katsute Kami Datta Kemono-tachi e/To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts

In a last ditch effort to win a civil war, the Northerners summon dark magic that transforms their chosen troopers into super-soldiers. With overwhelming power on their side, these Incarnates crush the Southerners and win the war, but once the dust has settled these human weapons need to blend back into society or risk being exterminated by the Beast Hunters.

Branded as outcasts, the Incarnates are cast out of the society that they fought to save and one Beast Hunter by the name of Nancy Schaal Bancroft finds herself investigating a wide-ranging conspiracy in the wake of her own Incarnate father’s death…

Kanata no Astra/ Astra Lost in Space

Nine high schoolers, stranded more than 5000 light years away from Earth find themselves battling nature, dwindling resources and each other as they work to return home from an interplanetary camping trip gone dreadfully awry.

Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo

A high school girl blurts out in her Literature Club that she wants to experience sex and this probably isn’t another attempt by the FBI to arrest you for watching an anime series about young girls growing into adulthood.

Given

It has been too long since Beck ended, so I’ll take any slice of romance and rock music so long as it features some kickass tracks.

Sounan Desu ka?

Courage! Survival! Battling against the odds! A group of high school girls find themselves in over their heads as they spend their youth surviving on an island which may seem like a paradise at first, but quickly highlights just how unprepared they are for the wrath of nature.

Cop Craft

15 years ago, a gate to a mystical fantasy land opened and created a bridge for worlds to collide. Years later, and San Teresa City is now home to a melting pot of regular and fantasy world refugees from Reto Semaani. The city of dreams is in chaos, and the only people who can restore order to the streets are detective Kei Matoba and Reto Semaani knight Tirana as they balance justice from two worlds in this weird as hell buddy cop series.

Ensemble Stars!

Another harem anime. But like in an exclusive boys IDOL group high school because this kind of stuff sells massively in Japan.

Granbelm

In a world where magic has long since been forgotten, only two kids can restore a sense of mysticism and wonder to a land that is sorely in need of a few arcane reminders.

Joshikousei no Mudazukai

High school comedy series about the misunderstandings of nicknames. Well alright then.

Kochouki: Wakaki Nobunaga

Japanese historical figure Oda Nobunaga, reborn in an animated tale that tells the story of his formative years as he becomes the legendarywarlord who fought back against the tyranny of his brother Nobuyuki.

Machikado Mazoku/Street Corner Demon

Better the devil you know than the angel you can’t trust, as Yuuko Yoshida finds herself battling the Light Clan in a battle that seems destined to see her lose. Until fate intervenes that is…

Re:Stage! Dream Days♪

Idol drama, as Mana Shikimiya starts her journey to conquer the Japanese pop star charts.

Yubisaki kara no Honki no Netsujou: Osananajimi wa Shouboushi

An old love is rekindled once again, as office worker Ryou Fujihashi finds herself rescued from an office fire by a group of the burliest firefighters around. One of these brave civil servants just so happens to be Souma Mizuno, an old flame who she had a crush on.

SD Gundam World: Sangoku Souketsuden

A new SD Gundam spin-off, which has a synopsis so weird regarding the fact that it stars chibi Gundam units from series past being summoned to battle, that I’m just going to copy and paste it below instead of trying to explain it: Repeated warfare has destroyed countries that once prospered gloriously, leaving the land in ruins. Just when revival is in sight, an epidemic of the mysterious Yellow Zombie Virus breaks out. The virus carriers lose themselves and start attacking people. The survivors are forced to live inside fortified cities for protection.

After the Yellow Zombie Virus epidemic, people have surrounded their territories with high walls in order to keep out the infected. In the limited area that they live in, the only thing people can rely on is a form of energy known as ‘Trinity.’ However, this finite energy has caused social stratification and much conflict. Each fortified city is isolated by walls, and each country is ruled by a lord. However, behind closed walls, the lord Dong Zhuo has been acting in an outrageous manner since the passing of the previous lord.

As if drawn together by destiny, Liu Bei Unicorn Gundam meets Guan Yu Nu Gundam and Zhang God Gundam and decides to save the world. Eventually, the passion of the three young men will bring about great change in the world. The new heroes unveil a new chapter in history.

Business Fish

That fella has a fish for a head.

Not much here that looks particularly outstanding. Then again they are competing against Fruits Basket remake and for that I feel sorry for them.

Also do my spider senses tell me someone hates Isekai?
