I’ve always maintained that Warner Bros Animation has had a solid track record with adapting DC properties into direct to DVD movies. The Dark Knight Returns, Flashpoint Paradox and All Star Superman are a few great examples of their work. Next on the agenda, is another Batman film in the form of Assault on Arkham. Only this time, there’s less Dark Knight and more Suicide Squad involved. Neat.
A few interesting tidbits from that video. While it takes a few influences from the hit game Batman: Arkham Asylum, Assault on Arkham actually takes place two years before the events of that game. It’s essentially a prequel, and a bridge between Arkham Origins and Asylum. Joker isn’t even the only threat this time, with the Riddler having a chance to shine due to him having some data that could damage the government-sanctioned supervillain team Task Force X AKA the Suicide Squad.
As director Jay Oliva described in the video, this film will have a different feel, in the vein of a heist movie or a Guy Ritchie flick. I can dig that.
Batman: Assault on Arkham is out later this year.
