Spider-Man, the spectacular wall-crawler! And a fella with a rogues gallery longer than the talent behind a porn star! Spidey swings into theaters in just under a month, in a film that is promising the world and looking capable of delivering on that vow. Beyond that though, his enemies will be getting their own movie. And that’s because they’re just so darn interesting.
“At the tail end of this movie we set up some of the other characters that will probably end up being in the Sinister Six,” Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal said to Entertainment Weekly. “We’re going forward on all fronts.”
We already know that Spidey will quickly deal with the Rhino before moving onto bigger obstacles in the form of Electro and the Green Goblin. But what about Spider-Man 3? Who will the webhead tussle with? Speculation points to Dock Ock and the Vulture being the prime baddies, villains who will then move up to form the Sinister Six. And according to producer Avi Arad, a film like that is interesting because it examines what makes a super-criminal a lawbreaker in the first place:
Villains can be very entertaining. It’s not like somebody’s born and they’re a villain. Something happens and it changes their lives. Some people can deal with it — they become the heroes. Some people can’t and hate the world because of what they felt was done to them — they become the villains.
Speaking of the Green Goblin, here’s your first proper look at Dane Dehaan with his Cape Town approved Tik diet, giving him the visage of a drugged-up hang-glider. Puff puff pass Dane, we’d also like some Goblin serum powers if you don’t mind.
The Amazing Spider-Man is out locally on April 25.
