Ya know, I’m not that shaken up about a Poltergeist remake. The first film may have been a cult classic, but the numerous sequels that followed on through were anything but that. Poltergeist is also a horror film from a different school of jump scares, one where the terror isn’t exactly a gory and in your face experience. Something that has proven to be effective in films such as the Paranormal Activity series. With Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt on board, the remake already has a solid cast in place. And the actual film itself is looking just as solid.
Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi (“Spiderman,” “Evil Dead”, “The Grudge”) and director Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and hold the youngest daughter captive, the family must come together to rescue her before she disappears forever.
Any parent who buys creepy clown dolls for children, are pretty much the worst parents ever. There’s a ton of effective scares in that trailer, something that has resulted in me typing this post from behind the couch, and I need to go smack Rockwell for making me think that this flick would more of an adventure than a horror movie thanks to his recent comments. Poltergeist is out in July, with Gil Kenan directing the frights.
