DC comics series, Supergirl has finally released on CBS last night. along with the airing of the first episode there has been a new trailer released that gives us a good look at what to expect from this first season, including a few glimpses at upcoming DC characters like Red Tornado.
Supergirl is based on the characters from DC Comics and centers around twenty-four-year-old Kara Zor-El, who was taken in by the Danvers family when she was 13 after being sent away from Krypton, must learn to embrace her powers after previously hiding them. The Danvers family teaches Kara to be careful with her powers, until she has to reveal them during an unexpected disaster, setting her on her journey of heroism.
Check out the trailer below:
The show received a mostly warm reception from fans when the pilot was aired at Comic-Con earlier this year, with a lot of praise going to Melissa Benoist, that leads the cast for the show.
Joining Benoist in Supergirl is Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow “Winn” Schott, Jenna Dewan Tatum as Lucy Lane (sister of Lois), Iddo Goldberg as Red Tornado, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, Peter Facinelli as Maxwell Lord, and Dean Cain and Helen Slater.
From the trailer it seems the show will take on a light approach, while at the same time giving Benoist some tough action scenes to portray the various levels that she uses to relay her character to a varied audience. She has this charm and vulnerability about her that steals your heart yet you never doubt her ability to handle her business when needed.
What is nice to see is that unlike other shows of similar genres, Supergirl doesn’t waste too much time letting those around her in on her secret identity. An identity that she hide oh so brilliantly by wearing a pair of glasses (because this concept has never been explored before). Thankfully we will not have to wait for the show to conclude before getting to see this member of the House of El make us of her flying power.
In case you were wondering who the creepy guy in the red suit was, well that is Red Tornado, played by Iddo Goldberg. According to Warner Bros. this is how the character will tie into the show:
RED TORNADO is the most advanced android the world has ever seen. Designed by scientist T.O. Morrow for the U.S. Army as the ultimate super-weapon, he soon becomes sentient, posing a grave danger to National City – including the people Supergirl cares about most.
Supergirl airs Monday evenings at 8:00pm ET/PT. Have you had a chance to watch the first episode yet? If so what are you thoughts?
