This first trailer for EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS is out of control

You don’t have to be religious in order to appreciate a good story. And when you think about it, the tale of Moses had it all. Drama! Love! Action! Christian Bale! And now finally, history is getting that big screen story with plenty of special effects and a plague or two. Here’s the first trailer for Ridley Scott’s  Exodus epic.

From acclaimed director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Prometheus) comes the epic adventure “Exodus: Gods and Kings,” the story of one man’s daring courage to take on the might of an empire. Using state-of-the-art visual effects and 3D immersion, Scott brings new life to the story of the defiant leader Moses (Christian Bale) as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses (Joel Edgerton), setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.

I’ve got to say, that does look visually sublime. And when you’ve got actors such as Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton thrown into a mix that pits brother against borther, that should leave plenty of room for some decent drama and story-telling as well. In addition to that trailer, here are three posters as well:

Exodus: Gods and Kings also stars Aaron Paul, John Turturro, Sigourney Weaver and Ben Kingsley. It’ll be parting cinemas on December 12.

I hope they go for the more interesting story than the pure biblical one. It has long been suggested that Moses was an Egyptian and likely a high-ranking member of the royal family. There is also the matter that the group that left weren’t just Israelites, but the massive melting pot that was Egyptian foreign labour. I’m also curious to see if their situation will be cast as slavery or indentured labour. And the Golden Calf episode – was it the result of different cultures clashing? Did Moses order mass executions as a result? There is a lot that a good script could play with…
