BMW The Escape

We showcased recently the previous string of classic BMW short films (titled The Hire), which featured, then little known actor Clive Owen, being directed in a series of short films, which he acts as a driver having to do a variety of impressive car maneuvers in his BMW, to get through different situations. And that BMW is making more of this goodness, is a good thing.

BMW might sound like a strange choice as a producer of short films and to be honest, I’m not sure if they will make a difference to their designated target market or not. However, if the high quality of their previous short films is anything to go by, they will probably at least be a Youtube sensation if nothing else.

And the first trailer for their first short film in the new series has been released and is titled The Escape. The short film is being directed by none other than out very own Neill Blomkamp and again stars Clive Owens as the suave and stylish driver of a BMW, who needs to utilize superb driving skills to escape out of a predicament.

And this is looking really good. It’s more of the same from the last time, but with a bigger budget. Much bigger budget. And more explosions too. Owen seems even more adept and intense in his role and obviously Blomkamp brings something different with his direction – making for something a little more action oriented than some of the previous films.

Outside of Blomkamp’s work, there has been no official announcement from BMW Films on what other directors will form part of the new series, but there is no doubt that the cream of the crop of established and up and coming directors will be tapped. Personally, I’m interested to see what someone like Christopher Nolan could do with a short film like this.

A man of many talents, but no sense how to use them. I could be discovering the cure for aids or finding ways to achieve world peace, but I'd rather be watching movies and writing here instead.
