It seems that Sony are finally giving the green light to a movie that I have been most keen to see, the Spider-Man Spin off – Venom. You know the Alien Symbiote that was horribly played by Topher Grace in Spider-Man 3. Putting that performance and movie aside, I have always been a fan of Venom as well as Carnage, who is rumored to be the movies nemesis to who I’m assuming will be a Anti-Hero Venom, so naturally I am interested in the project.

Now there are a few things that have me concerned with the project. Firstly Sony is handling this, with no mention of Marvel’s involvement and we have all been victims to their handling of comic book adaptions before and it has not been pretty. Then there is the fact that Spidy is now a part of the larger Marvel universe, leaving us with a Venom movie without a Spider-Man? I can’t see that working too well at all. Now if this turns out to be a Venom VS Carnage movie, that would basically end up being two hours of Venom fighting a more evil version of himself, again without the presence of Spider-Man, I cannot see that working too well. I hope that I am wrong of course.

Before I get too far ahead myself this is what we know for sure. Dante Harper (Edge Of Tomorrow) is on board to pen the script and Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are on board as producers and will also be over seeing the project, Palak Patel and Eric Fineman will oversee the film for Columbia. There is no official title, release date for the movie (I don’t see it coming out any time soon), or any names linked to play Venom yet, but this movie will happen. The only question left is will this be a wonderful addition to the movie world or are Sony simply doing this for the sake of having another money-making franchise on their books?

What do you think about this project? Will it work or should it have stayed on a shelf somewhere? Let us know in the comments below.
