Guys, we need to talk! There’s clearly some kind of breakdown in communication happening here. That’s the only reason I can think of as to why nobody’s told me about The Warrior’s Gate before today. I mean it’s a high-concept, big budget fantasy Chinese/French production written/produced by the Fifth Element team of Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, is directed by Cockneys’ Vs. Zombies’ Matthias Hoene, stars Dave Bautista, Sienna Gullory and Mark Chao (of Young Detective Dee fame), boasts Maxime Alexandre (Haute Tension, The Hills Have Eyes, The Crazies) as cinematographer, and is about a teenage video gamer in modern times who gets magically transported back to ancient China of myth, and has to translate his gaming skills into becoming a kung fu hero.
It’s like Besson and co had a direct line feed running into the wild imagination of 13 year old me when they came up with this movie! And you can check out all the craziness that I dreamed up they came up with in the film’s first trailer below.
Okay, so that looks like it could go either way. Can’t fault the production design though and it still looks like it could be some harmless big budget fun, so I’m definitely keeping an eye out for this one.
The Warrior’s Gate also stars Uriah Shelton, Ni Ni and Dakota Daulby. It is scheduled for release in China on August 5. No idea about international release dates though.
