It’s a well known fact that most of the flora and fauna in Australia just exists to kill you in creatively painful ways. And according to the work of writer-director David Michôd, the people are pretty deadly too. It’s been 4 years since Michôd brought us the badass Australian crime drama Animal Kingdom, and now he’s back with The Rover, a post-apocalyptic tale that couldn’t have a simpler premise – a man just wants to get his stolen car back – but looks to be one blood- and sun-soaked tale of serious outback violence starring a mean-bearded Guy Pearce and an almost unrecognisable Robert Pattinson.
10 years following the collapse of society, a man will go to any lengths to take back the one thing that still matters to him.
Animal Kingdom was the film that set Joel Edgerton on his path to Hollywood A-list status, and Edgerton seemingly returned the favour when he came up with the idea for The Rover, though he’s not in the film itself. Based on this trailer though, he won’t be missed (no offence, Edgerton) as Pearce seems to be just chewing it up here.
There’s currently no release date set for The Rover .
