Can you believe it? We’re almost completely finished with the eighth season of Doctor Who. The freakin’ eigth season! Peter Capaldi has been a magnificent Doctor so far, and a sharp departure from Matt Smith’s lovable Time Lord as he gallavanted around the universe. And he may just be my favourite incarnation to date as the last of his species. It’s been an experimental season so far, with every episode providing something different as opposed to the usual format of saving the world, time and space on a weekly basis. It’s time for the end game then, in the two-part finale.
With new images and a trailer from the BBC! First, the video stuff:
In the mysterious world of the Nethersphere, plans have been drawn up. Missy is about to come face to face with the Doctor, and an impossible choice is looming. “Death is not an end” promises the sinister organisation known only as 3W – but, as the Doctor and Clara discover, you might wish it was.
There’s obviously quite a bit going on here. The appearance of Missy, Clara hinting at something bigger than either her or the Doctor and a Cyberman invasion of London. But what intrigues me the most, is the fact that the Doctor is holding the head of an older model of Cyberman in his hands, an incarnation of the deadly cyborg menace that hasn’t been seen for several decades now. Either that, or he needed a replacement for Handles.
Dark Waters kicks off this Saturday, with Death In Heaven wrapping up series 8. Goodbye goodbye, rubbish robots from Mondas!
