2K announces new studio working on new title

Hangar 13

2K has officially launched a new studio, Hangar 13. Not only that, but they’re already working on an unannounced title. What strange and wonderful things could we see coming out of the Hangar 13? Well, it will be something unique.

The studio will be led by LucasArts and Star Wars game franchise veteran Haden Blackman. Other executives include major industry players with CV mentions like THQ, 2K Marin, LucasArts, Ubisoft Toronto and Pixar. So it’s a solid team with the goal of being special:

Though we hail from all over the world, and our backgrounds are wildly different, one thing binds us all together – the belief that “Every Player Story is Unique.” We believe that a game should never be a fixed experience fed to the player, but something that is shaped by the game developers and the player together, every time the game is played. At Hangar 13, we want to make (and play) games that allow players the freedom to define everything from the moment-to-moment gameplay to the narrative, creating their own, unique player stories along the way.

They are currently working on “an intense action game set in an immersive world and with a strong narrative, but player agency is at the heart of everything we do”. They are hiring, too – 18 positions are currently listed on the site ranging from audio programmers to AI engineers and mission designers. It’s unclear exactly what they’re working on, but it will be a AAA title with 2K’s support.

I’m always happy when I hear about the foundation of new studios rather than place closing their doors. Good news for them, and hopefully good news for us in the future when they deliver something innovative and unique.

Oooooh. I am very curious. However can I just say that sometimes a linear story driven game is ok. Not saying they are wrong. Changing stories where every one’s experience is differant is cool and all. But I don’t want to see story driven SP die either

Lets hope it’s not another studio that will end up a dry well like THQ. Dammit why THQ, why did you go and close down, now my warhammer went down with you.

I was a 40k fan and still is. Warhammer 40k soulstorm is still loaded on my pc. Graphics aren’t the best but i still love the RTS gameplay.

Bioshock meets Mass Effect, with a dollop of Fallout JUST to make it interesting. Or its Half Life 3 😉

No hand holding. Unique stories with different outcomes. The Witcher.

But, ‘freedom to define everything from the moment-to-moment gameplay to the
narrative, creating their own, unique player stories along the way.’ That’s online bullshit talk.

I guess this means just more DRM for the PC market.

    Don’t support DRM.
