40GB PS3 available (Good) but with false advertising (Bad)

The latest Hi-Fi corporation flyer is out and has 2 suprises along with it.

They have slashed R500 of the 40GB model and are selling it for R4479… but I thought it was R4500 normal price? I wonder if on the 1st of December we are going to be seeing the 40GB model selling for R5000 instead?

This wouldn’t be the first time something like this happened to South African consumers.

The second nasty but expected suprise is that the 40GB model is being sold as backwards compatible with all PS1 and PS2 games. I called this a few weeks ago and am not suprised by it.

I don’t know why SterKinekor or Sony are so eager to speak to the advertising standards agency again. Yeah they got caught in March as well. Cheap marketing tactic?

In the same brochure they have the Wii selling for R2879 (What an awful picture though) and the 360 with 2 games (Juiced and Moto GP 07) for R3899. Isn’t it a great time to be a gamer?

It’s a Hi-Fi Corporation advert, not an official Sony flyer so why you saying its Sony’s cheap tactics?

It’s quite clearly Hi-Fi Corporation’s responsability to ensure the facts of their specials and products…

So when this exact same false advertising appears in other brochures are we all going to ignore the central information company?

Hi-Fi Corruption for you. If I had R1 for every time they messed up with advertising I would be a rich man.

When and If it appears on other brochures then blame Sony or Ster Kinekor, but right now it looks like Hi-Fi Corp didn’t bother to find out the differences between the 40GB version and the 60GB version…

kalahari advertises the 40 GB model as follows:

This PlayStation 3 model does NOT feature:
    # Backwards Compatibility with PS2 Games
    # Memory Stick Card Readers
    # SACD Playback
    # Ethernet Cable
    # 4 USB Ports, this model features 2.

If they can get it right then so can the others. I really doubt that there is some underhanded advertising campaign going on here. The retailers are simply being ignorant.

I didn’t know pointing out false advertising was a bad thing… my apologies…

Can I ask how many other South African sites have pointed you too which retailers are selling this 40GB version?

Or reported on the PS3 outselling the 360 in Europe for the past 3 weeks…

Apologies if the PS3 news is not always good..

    Silly Hi-fi Corp.
The back of 40gb ps3 model says “not compatible with playstation 2 software”

SACD Playback is not in 40gb model.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Audio_CD
2 usb ports for the 40gb.

I just hope people look at the back of the box.

I’m so bummed it doesn’t have SACD! forget 7.1! forget “lossless” – SACD was the format that was going to revolutionize Music! Clarity, like never before! The audio resolution was amazing!

Wait a sec, that sounds a bit familiar…
