A teenager has developed an AI that’s successfully banned over 15 000 cheaters in Counter Strike!

With a successful catch rate of 98.36% let’s hope that creator 2Eggs shares his creation with other shooters on the market.

Shooters always seem to attract the most cheaters. Now, that statement might be totally wrong (hence the “seem”) but out of the wide variety of multiplayer games I play with my friends, nearly every instance of hacking can be seen within a shooter. Whether it be Apex: Legends, Fortnite or PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, which is fraught with hackers, cheaters are a constant source of frustration for those of use who just want to play the game and have fun. 2Eggs, a massive Counter-Strike fan over in the UK, has just about had it with hackers ruining his experience whenever he’s trying to play his favourite shooter but rather than jumping over to Reddit to complain, he decided to take his own measures.

2Eggs has developed an AI program, called HestiaNet, that can identify hackers with a successful catch rating of 98.36%, resulting in over 15 000 cheaters being banned from the game. HestiaNet reviews footage submitted to the Overwatch system and has evaluated 15, 356 players and ban all but 202 of them. The Overwatch system allows verified players to review captured footage of potential cheaters and submit their rulings to Valve so that steps may be taken to deal with potential hackers. As useful as the system is, there’re only so many videos a person can scrub through at a time and human error will always be a problem.

“I called it HestiaNet because, as you know, CS:GO is infested with cheaters and the Goddess Hestia has a power of healing as well as power of hearth and fire. I want HestiaNet to heal over the games infestation and to get rid of as many cheaters as possible. To many of us in the community, CS:GO is a home, and Hestia is also the protector of the house”, said 2Eggs in an interview with The Loadout. Something tells me this kid has a bright future ahead of him as tech companies will no doubt be trying to snap him up as soon as he’s finished high school.
