A perfect organism. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility. A survivor… unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality. But enough about the Queen of England! We’re here to talk about Xenomorphs, second only to the British monarchy in its sheer ruthlessness and the stars of the upcoming Aliens: Fireteam game.
Sure the spotlight may be on your three-man team of Colonial Marines descending into a Xeno hive that’s stickier than a 2019 cinema floor, but those double-mouthed buggers with penis-shaped heads have always occupied a spot in the hearts and minds of fans. In Aliens: Fireteam you won’t just be tangling with the traditional HR Geiger-designed nightmare either, as the game will have a few variants to throw at you along the way.
As revealed by IGN, here’s a look at six Xenomorphs who’ll be putting your trigger-fingers to the test. I can’t lie to you about your chances, but… you have my sympathies.
Drones

Your run of the mill Xenomorph that you’ll likely spend a ton of ammo on whenever you drop into a level, Drones are opportunistic hunters who strike from the shadows and love crawling through air shafts. They’re in the vents man, they’re in the vents!
Bursters

As evidenced by the big glowy bits on them, Bursters will attempt to close the gap and then go full Kamikaze on your butt, exploding in a fountain of acidic blood when slain. As you’d expect, your best bet is to keep your distance so that you can avoid all of that nasty gunk when it spills out.
Praetorians

The nightclub bouncer of the Xenomorph species, Praetorians are heavily armored murder machines that possess a a bulletproof armored head plate that they won’t hesitate to use in a ramming attack. Your entire squad will need to focus fire on this bruiser whenever it shows up.
Prowlers

A quadruped Xenomorph with a reddish, scalloped carapace, these agile dudes exist as spanners to be thrown into your carefully constructed defenses and will perform leaping attacks from close range.
Runners

Runners on the other hand are an entire pack of Xeno spanners in a game of dodgeball, who’ll do a suicidal charge in great numbers at you and use a distinctive circling attack to whip players with their serrated tails.
Spitters

The Xenos have also evolved to include a long-range option in its biological offense, and while this particular bastard has the signature teeth and claws of its brethren, it can also hurl globs of acid from powerful glands within its mouth.
Aliens: Fireteam is out later this year on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. And so far, it’s looking surprisingly good enough to wipe the memory of that game that rhymes with Matrimonial Vaccines straight out of existence.
